The mayor in office and at the same time the SP candidate for the May 14 elections, Emiriana Sako, has stated that the project for the port of Durres is a major project of the Albanian government and not in the mayor’s duties.
For “Top Story”, Sako says that one of the mayor’s duties is to provide services such as cleaning, greening and lighting to the city, and at this point, Durrës is a dynamic city that has changed for the better.
Excerpts from the debate:
Duma: How will the old city area be treated? What will happen to the Port of Durrës, will we only have columns and steps? What will be done with the amphitheater part, with the historical part, with the cobblestones of Durrës?
Sako: They are two different and separate things. There are two major projects of the Albanian government. However, the duties of the mayor are this, but to provide service, cleaning, greenery and lighting to the city. Durrës is a city that has changed, it is a dynamic city, the number of the population is increasing. Today we are about 330 thousand inhabitants, after a territorial reform that brought with it the problems of 2015 that also brought with it the problems of administrative units.
In the city of Durrës there is room for development because the city center is formed and there is no more room to conceive interventions. But the future of the city of Durres will be the area of New Durres, the area of Porto Romano which are areas with a new industrial projection.
