Not less than 34 individuals had been arrested on the College of Texas at Austin as of 9 p.m. native time, in keeping with the Texas Division of Security.
“Right now, our college stood agency, implementing our guidelines whereas defending the constitutional proper to free speech. Peaceable protests inside our guidelines are acceptable,” college President Jay Hartzell stated in a press release Wednesday night.
“Breaching our guidelines and insurance policies and disrupting the educational of others just isn’t allowed. The group main this protest acknowledged that it will violate institutional guidelines. Our guidelines are essential and they are going to be enforced. Our college is not going to be occupied.”
“There’s a technique to train freedom of speech and civil discourse, and our Workplace of the Dean of College students has continued to supply methods to make sure protests can happen throughout the guidelines,” Hartzell continued.
The dispersal order ended shortly after 9 p.m. and the campus was deemed “fully secure,” Austin police stated on X.
