The Egyptian cabinet intends to implement a new rise in electricity pricesfrom July 1 due to the increase in natural gas and fuel prices, according to guidelines issued by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly in October.

Madbouly had announced in October that it would postpone the application of the electricity price increase to various consumption segments until June 30, in order to prepare a new social protection package, to be introduced on January 1.

The Egyptian government subsidizes electricity for the first four segments with the lowest consumption at half the cost price.

Egypt delayed the increase in electricity prices three times, which led to the state budget running up to nearly LE25 billion due to the rise in natural gas and fuel prices.

The government also announced the implementation of a plan to rationalize electricity consumption in government agencies and various ministries to save gas.

Al-Masry Al-Youm published the new increases in electricity rates, which will be implemented at the end of July:
