STORY: Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, is subpoenaed by the US Virgin Islands.
The US territory wants Musk to turn over documents relating to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
It’s all part of the lawsuit filed by the Virgin Islands against JP Morgan, who is accused of facilitating Epstein’s sexual assault on Little St. James, a private island he owned there.
Lawyers allege that America’s largest bank ignored internal warnings about Epstein for years before finally dropping him as a client in 2013.
The bank has denied knowledge of Epstein’s crimes.
Musk may have been referred by Epstein to JP Morgan, according to Monday’s court indictment.
It was not intended to interrogate Musk under oath or implicate him in any wrongdoing.
However, the subpoena demanded all the documents he has about Epstein’s involvement in human trafficking.
It also sought all communications between the entrepreneur and JP Morgan about Epstein, as well as between Musk and Epstein.
The subpoena was issued on April 28 and did not come to light until Monday when the Virgin Islands requested that Musk be served in alternative ways because they had been unable to locate and serve him.
In a tweet late Monday, Musk said the idea that he would listen to Epstein’s financial advice was absurd.
Referring to Epstein, he said, “That idiot never advised me on anything.”
