(Reuters) – Elon Musk said on Sunday he was looking for a change to the Twitter logo, tweeting: “And soon we will say goodbye to the twitter brand and gradually all birds”.

In a post posted to the site at 12:06 am ET (0406 GMT), the billionaire owner of the social media platform added, “If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll make sure (it) goes live worldwide tomorrow.”

Musk posted an image of a flickering “X”, and later replied “Yes” in a Twitter Spaces audio chat when asked if the Twitter logo will change, adding that “it is long overdue”.

Under Musk’s tumultuous tenure since buying Twitter in October, the company has changed its corporate name to X Corp, reflecting the billionaire’s vision to create a “super app” like WeChat in China.

The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Twitter’s website says its logo, which depicts a blue bird, is “our most recognizable asset.” “That’s why we’re so protective of it,” it added.

The bird was temporarily replaced by Dogecoin’s Shiba Inu dog in April, boosting the market value of the meme coin.

The company was widely criticized by users and marketing professionals when Musk announced early this month that Twitter would limit the number of tweets per day that different accounts can read.

The daily caps aided the growth of Meta-owned rival service Threads, which surpassed 100 million logins within five days of launch.

Twitter’s most recent complication was a lawsuit filed Tuesday alleging that the company owes at least $500 million in severance payments to former employees. Since being acquired by Musk, the company has laid off more than half of its staff to cut costs.
