Former San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin has been named executive director of the University of California’s new research and advocacy center, Berkeley Law School.
Boudin was removed from his position as prosecutor by a margin of 55% to 45% in a recall vote in 2022.
In an op-ed for the San Francisco Chronicle on Wednesday, Boudin said he had been named the founder and executive director of the University of California, Berkeley Law School’s new Criminal Law & Justice Center.
“In my new role, just as I did as a prosecutor, I will continue to draw on networks of lawyers, activists, judges and legal practitioners to support reform and promote safety in a way that is rigorous, principled and responsive to on the lived experiences of direct impact on communities,” Boudin said in the op-ed. “The center will systematically evaluate the outcomes of specific policies and communicate to the public which policy changes are essential to improve public safety and justice.”

Boudin also announced in the op-ed that he will not seek elected office in 2024.
