Democratic Tennessee State Representatives Justin Jones and Justin Pearson, the two lawmakers evicted from the state House earlier this month, attended a protest outside the White House Correspondents’ Dinner accusing the Biden administration of committing ” ecocide’.
Jones was spotted outside the Washington Hilton in the nation’s capital Saturday night as thousands of media members, politicians and celebrities gathered for the annual dinner where President Biden will speak.
Jones took part in a protest organized by the environmentalist group Climate Defiance that claimed Biden is committing “ecocide” after approving a 30-year oil drilling project in Alaska known as the Willow Project in March.
“@brotherjones_ is now supporting protesters,” Politico reporter Mia Camille McCarthy tweeted Saturday outside the White House Correspondents Dinner.

Jones’ appearance at the protest comes shortly after Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris welcomed Jones and the rest of the “Tennessee Three” to the White House after gaining national fame for calling for gun control by interrupting a house session following a shooting on a private property. Jones and fellow Democrat Justin Pearson, who also attended Saturday’s protest, were evicted by the Republican-controlled legislature before eventually being reinstated.

“You stand up for our kids, you stand up for our communities,” Biden told Jones, Pearson and Rep. Gloria Johnson, who was not evicted.
Biden described the eviction votes as “shocking” and “undemocratic”.
“Nothing is guaranteed about our democracy – every generation has to fight for it,” he said.

Harris made a surprise trip to Nashville earlier this month to meet with Jones and Pearson and was heavily criticized for not meeting the victims of the shooting.
Harris gave a speech at the church in which she offered her support to lawmakers and accused the GOP-majority governing body of destroying democracy by silencing the legislators and the voters they represent.

In a very animated part of Harris’ speech, the vice president almost yelled, “It wasn’t about these three leaders. It was about who they represented. It’s about whose voices they channeled! Understand that!’
She made hand gestures in front of a rowdy crowd and asked, “And isn’t that what a democracy allows?” She continued, “A democracy says you don’t silence the people! You don’t oppress the people!”
