A California man accused of impersonating a doctor is accused of treating thousands of patients for years, including for cancer, prosecutors said.

Stephan Gevorkian, 44, of Studio City, faces five felony charges for practicing medicine without certification, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement Monday. rack.

“Unlicensed practicing medicine is not only a criminal activity in California, it can cause irreparable damage to the health of unsuspecting people, some with serious illnesses, who believe they are under the care of a licensed physician,” said Gascon.

“Gevorkian is accused of dispensing drugs on thousands of individuals without a license for years,” the statement said.

Gevorkian owns and operates Pathways Medical in North Hollywood, prosecutors said. The company conducts blood tests, advises patients on treatments and offers treatments for conditions such as cancer and viral infections, prosecutors said.

On November 17, 2022, an undercover investigator received advice from Gevorkian. During that consultation, Gevorkian allegedly failed to recognize abnormal levels of a hormone that could indicate a serious medical condition, prosecutors said.

The state’s Department of Consumer Affairs, the Investigation Division and the Consumer Protection Division of the District Attorney’s Office are investigating the case, prosecutors said.

Gevorkian’s office was not immediately available for comment Tuesday. His lawyer was also unavailable.

According to the district attorney’s office and court documents, a complaint was filed Wednesday for an arrest warrant and Gevorkian’s attorney was notified of the warrant.

Gevorkian was charged Friday on the charges, when a judge released him on his own admission provided he did not practice medicine, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office said Tuesday.

Gevorkian was never arrested, the spokesman said.
