Florida authorities say they have tracked down the driver who was caught on video last week dragging a dog nearly half a mile behind a truck.
Charlotte County Public Safety credited “super sleuths” for helping locate the vehicle and driver, whose identity has not been released. It was not clear on Monday whether the driver was arrested.

Authorities said last week they were looking for a gray 2009-2014 Ford F150 STX in connection with an animal cruelty involving a “russet dog” that took place near Lakeworth Blvd and Durant St.

The gruesome scene was captured on neighbors’ security cameras. After some neighbors chased after the truck, the driver reportedly got out and threw the dog into the back before driving off again.

A resident who witnessed the scene told WINK News that he couldn’t get the image out of his head.
“The bloody paw prints down here got me the most, it’s pretty traumatic,” said neighbor Todd Tyler.
Charlotte County animal control officer Colby Mazzoni told the outlet he wasn’t sure if the driver did it on purpose.

“It’s pretty brutal. So we’re still treating it as a case of brutality,” she said.
