At least nine people – including minors – were injured on Memorial Day after shots rang out at the beachfront promenade in Hollywood, Florida.
Police responded to a call just before 6:45 p.m. local time about several people who had been shot near Johnson St. Officers rendered assistance and the victims were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.

Police said the shooting was the result of an altercation between two groups. One person has been arrested and another is on the run, police said. A spokesperson for the department said the suspect is generally a black man with dreadlocks, wearing a black short-sleeved shirt and camo pants.

Videos circulating online show a packed crowd scrambling onto the beach promenade after shots rang out.
Police said many officers will be present during the investigation. Officials were also setting up an area for family members to reunite.

Hollywood Beach is a popular ocean destination located about 11 miles south of Fort Lauderdale and 20 miles north of Miami. The beach was expected to attract more visitors than usual with the Memorial Day holiday.
