Hector Dario Borjasformer mayor of the municipality of Saint Mark, Saint Barbarawas shot to death by subjects who came to his house, where he was resting.
Borjas was known as “The Padrón” and one of the top leaders of the Liberal Party of Honduras in that department in the western zone.
He was vice mayor in 2020, but took over the reins of the municipality after the then current mayor of San Marcos, Rigoberto Lopez, died of natural causes. After that, He was re-elected for two consecutive terms.
According to people close to him, Borjas had already been the target of death threats, but he did not receive the protection he had requested from the authorities.
In the images broadcast on social networks, his body was left lying in a corridor of his home, where he was sitting moments before being killed by unknown persons.
