Michael Steelethe former head of the Republican National Committee, Monday criticized GOP candidate Nikki Haley’s latest 2024 attempt to “have it both ways” when it comes to Donald Trump.

Haley, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, earlier in the day criticized Trump and called for a generational shift in the GOP — but then admitted in the same breath that she would still vote for the former president if he were the party’s nominee.

Haley’s “bubblegum speak” was merely a “banal” bid to placate Trump supporters, Steele told MSNBC’s Chris Jansing.

Steele suggested that Haley actually run against Republican front-runner Trump or “get out of the race.”

“Stop wasting our time,” he added.

Haley should “sound a lot more like” former New Jersey governor Chris Christie, a rival candidate who after years as an ally of Trump has now repeatedly trashed the ex-POTUS, if she really wanted the job, Steele said.

“If there was more uniform coverage in that regard, you would probably start to see some movement within the party,” the former GOP leader added. “But everyone is trying to protect Trump instead of taking him out because they’re afraid of what? So… it’s almost to the point where you get tired of answering the question what are these people doing? They have no idea what they are doing.”
