French actor Gerard Depardieu has been launched after police questioned him over sexual assault allegations, his lawyer stated.
French media had reported earlier on Monday that Depardieu was in police custody for questioning over allegations from two ladies that he sexually assaulted them on movie units.
The actor’s lawyer, Christian Saint-Palais, instructed reporters as he left the police station in Paris’s 14th arrondissement: “The police custody is over. He’s not being held on the police station.”
Depardieu, 75, one among France’s prime film stars, has been on the heart of a lot of sexual assault allegations lately, which have tarnished his legacy and uncovered wider divisions over sexual conduct in France.
BFMTV and Le Parisien reported that the police summons pertains to sexual assault allegations filed by two ladies who accused him of groping him throughout filming – one in 2014, the opposite in 2021.
Alleged assaults
The alleged assault from 2014 was reported to the police in January this 12 months, Le Parisien reported.
The opposite alleged assault concerned a 53-year-old movie decorator. She alleged that Depardieu grabbed her and kneaded her waist, stomach and breasts throughout filming for the film Les Volets Verts (The Inexperienced Shutters), in line with the lady’s lawyer, Carine Durrieu-Diebolt, when she filed the criticism with the prosecutor’s workplace Paris in February.
Depardieu is already dealing with a rape cost, in addition to claims of assault by greater than a dozen ladies – all of which he has vehemently denied.
