The governments of Mexico and the United States have agreed on Thursday to create a group against drugs and arms trafficking after a bilateral meeting on security held in the US capital, Washington DC.

This has been made known by the Mexican Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, through a video published on his social networks, in which he explained the results of the meeting, which was attended by delegations from both North American countries.

One of the objectives set at this meeting is to “reduce the flow of chemical precursors” to both countries “that come by air and sea” and facilitate the production of fentanyl, “which is consumed, above all, in the United States, in this moment”.

Second, Ebrard has proposed “drastically reducing the number of weapons entering Mexico” through a working group that monitors land customs on the border every week.

“This has already been discussed a lot with the US, but now a very specific measure has been proposed to them and they have said yes,” announced the head of Mexican diplomacy, who has indicated that it has been “a good meeting” and that ” soon” there will be “good results”.

The Mexican government has promised to increase the equipment of the Ministry of National Defense used to supervise border crossing points, through permanent surveillance throughout the territory “through a more efficient deployment of military units,” he explained. the Secretary of Security, Rosa Icela, as reported by the Mexican newspaper ‘Milenio’.

A binational campaign will also be launched in the media and schools, in order to “prevent and curb the use of synthetic drugs among young people, in addition to informing families about the risks,” reports the aforementioned newspaper.

Fentanyl is an extremely addictive drug from the opioid family that has caused a growing wave of overdose deaths in the United States in recent years.
