Police say vehicles were fired upon as a funeral procession passed through a Chicago suburb, seriously injuring two people and injuring two others
OAK PARK, Ill. — Shots were fired at vehicles as a funeral procession passed through a Chicago suburb, critically injuring two people and injuring two others, police said.
The shooting occurred around 1 p.m. Saturday when a white pickup truck pulled up next to a vehicle and someone inside opened fire as the procession moved from Chicago through the Oak Park suburb just west of the city, Oak Park police said.
The two occupants of the car were taken to hospital in critical condition, police said. Two people in another vehicle that was part of the procession were also hit by the gunfire and were treated at a hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.
No bystanders were injured in the shooting and police made no immediate arrests. Oak Park police said the department had not received any warning about risks related to the funeral procession.
Police Chief Shatonya Johnson said the department did not believe there was an additional threat to the public.
