A millionaire matera. That was what the Customs personnel found in the luggage of an Argentine woman who was arriving in the country from Paraguay: inside the bag used to transport the mate equipment, in the bottom part, there were hidden just over 100 thousand euros . The offender was arrested.
The woman arrived alone in an Argentine-controlled car at the San Roque González de Santa Cruz International Bridge, which connects Argentina with Paraguay. There, she had to submit to Customs control.
Official information reveals that specialized agents from the General Directorate of Customs discovered that he was trying to enter the country with 104,750 euros without declaring.
According to reports from Customs itself, the Argentine citizen arrived from Encarnación and completed the immigration procedures to enter Posadas, in Misiones.

After the rigorous procedures, the woman was received by customs personnel, who proceeded to carry out routine checks. There, according to the inspectors, they noticed her very nervous: “She was restless squeezing her mate team,” she said.
This suspicious attitude set off the alarm among the Customs agents, who asked her if she had anything to declare: the woman simply said no. “I only carry this thermos holder. Nothing else,” she stated to them.
After the statement, they asked her to open it, and at first the woman resisted. After insisting for several minutes, an officer was able to get hold of the bag and finally open it. Inside, there was indeed a complete set: a mate, a yerbera, a sugar bowl, and a thermos.
But underneath what could be seen with the naked eye, a black knotted nylon bag. And inside the bag, numerous wads of euros wrapped in kitchen paper.
There were bills of different denominations that totaled 104,750 euros. “I’m doing someone a favor, I didn’t know there were euros,” the woman declared nervously after being discovered.
The maneuver detected by Customs personnel greatly exceeded the foreign currency limit that can be entered into the country without declaring, of USD 10,000 (or its equivalent in another currency).
Customs personnel detained the woman because they detected a flagrant violation of the baggage regime. In addition, and in this context, she seized all the money.
