The femicide, who committed suicide after the crime, was the father of the victim’s three children.
A 36-year-old woman was stabbed to death in the Buenos Aires municipality of Brandsen by her ex-partner, father of her three children, whom she had denounced for gender violence, had a perimeter restriction to approach her, and hanged herself after the femicide.
The event occurred on Wednesday night in the middle of a public thoroughfare, around 9:00 p.m., when a call to 911 alerted to the presence of an injured woman in the Islas Malvinas square of the aforementioned town.
Upon the arrival of the police, before losing consciousness, the woman even said a few words that would be key to being able to act immediately: “Andrés Orrego, we have a perimeter.”
The woman was identified as Malvina Araya, 36 years old and mother of three children aged 13, 15 and 18. With serious stab wounds to the abdomen, Araya was quickly taken by ambulance to the Francisco Caram Municipal Hospital.
Despite the urgency of her transfer to the health center, the woman died while undergoing an operation, due to the seriousness of the injuries.
After the death of the woman, and with the first indications of the investigation, the police began looking for Araya’s ex-partner and father of her children, identified as Andrés Orrego, 43 years old.
The woman had imposed a restraining order against her ex-partner. Photo: Facebook.
The man had been denounced for threats and gender violence at the Brandsen Women’s and Family Police Station by the victim, for which he had a ban on approaching in force until the 28th of this month ordered by the Justice.
During a search to find the suspect, the police found Orrego hanged with a noose around his neck attached to a tree, meters from a provincial road in Brandsen.
In the place, the vehicle in which the femicide was moving, a Peugeot 106, was also kidnapped, the informants added.
As reported by the portal detrasdelanoticia.com.ar, relatives commented that the woman “decided to separate a few months ago because her husband beat her and was going to end up killing her.”
After denouncing her ex-partner, the woman moved to another city to escape from Orrego. On Wednesday she had returned to Brandsen, presumably to visit her children.
The case for femicide and suicide was handled by the Brandsen Functional Unit for Instruction and Trial.
