Luis Ricardo Martínez received 8 years in prison for causing the death of his baby and now faces the maximum sentence for his father’s crime.

A 27-year-old young man, who in 2016 was sentenced to 8 years in prison for killing his baby in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Villa del Parque, will be tried this Friday for the crime of his father, beaten to death in his home in the Buenos Aires town of La Tablada in 2020.

In October 2016, Luis Ricardo Martínez received an 8-year sentence – and his partner, 4 years – for the death of his son, who had died in 2012 as a result of the “mistreatment” received by the couple. As both were under 18 years of age at the time of the event, they were not entitled to life imprisonment.

However, now he does face the maximum penalty for the crime of “homicide aggravated by the bond” of his father Ricardo, a Paraguayan national.

The crime occurred on July 10, 2020, around 9:30 p.m., when the young man arrived on a motorcycle at the victim’s home, located at Charlone 232, between Las Heras and Acevedo, in the town of La Tablada, in La Matanza.

As determined by the prosecutor Juan Pablo Tahtagian, father and son began to argue after having dinner together. In this context, “he gave him several blows to different parts of the body that led to severe neurological damage due to polytrauma that inevitably caused his death minutes later.”

Defendant’s version of events

It was he himself who called 911. According to the account he gave to the Police, he went to his father’s house because he did not answer his calls and, upon arriving at the house, found the door open and several blood stains on it. the kitchen.

In addition, he explained to the doctors that his father was “a person who regularly consumed large amounts of alcohol”, which had caused him “blood pressure problems for several years”.

However, just two days after that statement, the young man changed his version of events: he explained that he had eaten and drank alcohol with his father and that they then started an argument that led to a fist fight.

In addition, he assured that his father tried to nail him with a piece of wood and that, in the middle of the confrontation, the man fell to the ground and he ran out of the house. Always according to his version, it was only the next day that he went to the scene of the crime and it was then that he found his father dead.

Doubts about crime in La Tablada

However, a brother of the victim told the owner of a funeral home that he had “doubts” about Ricardo’s death and requested judicial intervention in a case that began to be investigated as “investigation of causes of death.”

In this context, the autopsy determined that Ricardo died at dawn on July 10 due to “severe neurological damage” caused by blows to the head, chest and arms.

The neighborhood security cameras recorded that a man aboard a dark motorcycle arrived at the scene at 9:25 p.m. on July 10 and left at 3:32 a.m. the following morning. In addition, a witness assured that Luis “was an aggressive person” and that he knew kick boxing.

Investigators suspect that the crime occurred because the man did not give him the money he had collected from the Emergency Family Income (IFE), implemented during the pandemic by the National Government.

With these elements, the prosecutor ordered the arrest of the defendant and his prosecution with pretrial detention, since the expected sentence for the crime foisted is life imprisonment.
