A 75-year-old man, a former federal police officer, was sentenced to 25 years in prison in Corrientes for sexually abusing his five granddaughters, although he will serve house arrest due to his age.

During the non-public oral trial that took place in Paso de los Libres, she sought to show herself as a victim and assured that everything was engineered by one of the minors to justify the poor grades she had at school.

The three members of the Trial Court, Marcelo Fleitas, Marcelo Pardo and Gustavo Ifran, considered proven the sexual attacks suffered by the girls, two of them 10, another 12 and two 8 years old.

The accounts shocked judicial officials, since during the hearings it was established that a daughter of the abuser also suffered similar attacks by her father and grandfather when she was a child.

The man lived in Ombucito, a suburb of Paso de los Libres, and generally committed sexual assaults against his granddaughters while his wife attended an evangelical church at night. They also occurred inside a car and in a dark area near the local airfield.

The grandfather did not hesitate to use all the tools at his disposal to subdue the minors who opposed the abuse: from death threats, offering them money to buy silence or entertaining them with videos while carrying out the attacks.

However, when speaking before the judges, the former policeman appeared to be the victim of a conspiracy by his granddaughters. “When my wife went to church, my granddaughters went to a neighbor’s house. They were never alone with me. I don’t understand and I won’t understand where they got these violations from, I always behaved well with all my children. One of my granddaughters did poorly in her studies and someone had to be responsible for that, she blamed me, ”he added.

“Everything is a lie. Today I can speak but a year ago I couldn’t because I had a lump in my throat, I cried for the betrayal that my granddaughters did to me, ”she said before the judges.

The investigation

According to the judicial investigation, the first of the events occurred in February 2010 and the victim was a granddaughter who lived with her grandparents. According to her account, she was 8 years old at the time and the abuses were repeated at least until August of that year.

The victim was forceful in his story. “He made my brother leave the house to go play in the square, and I was left completely alone with him. Then he would undress me and make me climb on top of him. Sometimes he would make me watch videos while he touched me. When we had to pick up my grandmother from church, he would make me ride in the car with him by myself,” she said.

And he added: “Sometimes he took me to the airport and since it wasn’t lit before, he made me sit on his lap and touched me; and he did the same thing when we came downtown to look for my grandmother, he touched me all the way from the airport. Ombucito until here ”, he told before the Justice.

“He threatened me and gave me money, he told me not to speak, that I did not have to tell those things. I remember that he gave me money, I don’t know how much because I was a child, for no reason, I was barely 7 years old, ”he said, as revealed by the website www.confirmado.com.ar.

And it was his courage that exposed his grandfather’s pedophile actions. It is that when he was 17 years old, he decided to tell a cousin of hers what she had suffered and she told her mother that she filed a complaint about her.

For her part, the mother of two of the victims said she found out when her daughters were 9 and 11 years old. The youngest of the sisters said that the attacks occurred when she was hospitalized and left them in the care of her grandparents.

The other victim was much more explicit. Crying, he told his mother: “When you weren’t there, grandfather would take me to the arm room, lock the door and throw me on the bed. He would take off my clothes and if I didn’t want to, he would tell me that he was going to kill my little sister because he had a revolver, ”the woman recalled before the Court.

One of the defendant’s daughters told the judges that the complaints did not surprise her since her father had abused her when she was a child. And that her grandfather, who has already passed away, had also done it.

“Nothing surprises me. If he is guilty, let him pay,” the woman sentenced – lapidary. “He also did the same with me. I kept this to myself all my life but now I am an adult… now I do it (I tell) for my niece and because I have a younger daughter too. I would not like what happened to my nieces and what happened to me to happen. I don’t remember well, I was 8 or 9 years old and my mother went to church. As soon as she left, he would bar the door and abuse me. Several times he did it, ”she assured.

According to the prosecution, one of the minors was abused between February and August 2010, when she was in fourth grade and lived with her grandparents. And that they just stopped when the girl left the house to live with other relatives in the city of Corrientes.

Another event occurred between January and February 2019, when the man sexually assaulted his 10-year-old granddaughter under threats. In February 2020, meanwhile, he abused another 12-year-old granddaughter, to whom he offered 200 pesos to “open her legs.”

Another of the girls was abused at her grandfather’s house in January 2019, also under threats and violence due to the resistance she put up.

The fifth event described by the Prosecutor’s Office occurred in February 2020 in the victim’s room, who was 10 years old at the time.

One of the victims was also abused by her uncle, a 38-year-old man who was sentenced to 13 years in prison last February. In this case, the Justice considered three abuses with carnal access and at least one attempt, facts that caused the victim “serious damage to mental health.”
