A 40-year-old woman of Honduran origin identified as Carmen Unilda Navas Zúñiga was found dead in a motel in El Paso, Texas.

According to local police investigations, the Honduran woman entered the motel accompanied by 34-year-old Venezuelan Eddy José Ortega Alvarado, who has already been captured by the authorities.

The crime occurred on May 21 at the Budget Lodge Motel, located at 1301 N. Mesa. The preliminary investigation indicated that the Honduran woman’s death was suspicious in nature.

Detectives later learned that other people had stayed in the room and identified Ortega Alvarado as a person of interest.

The Venezuelan was found to have left El Paso and was in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

El Paso detectives met with Ortega Alvarado in Fort Worth. The ongoing investigation found probable cause that he had murdered Navas Zúñiga and stolen his money.

Both crossed into the United States and were processed by the US Border Patrol on May 20. The Venezuelan was booked into the Tarrant County Jail for capital murder and is being held on $2.5 million bail.
