Setback for Argentina: Lula da Silva says that additional economic aid “is not possible”
Late on Tuesday, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva confirmed what his Economy Minister, Fernando Haddad, had announced at noon: the BRICs will not provide a guarantee to help Argentina alleviate its reserves.
“It was not possible,” Lula said of reaching an agreement at the BRICS bank to benefit Argentina. It was at a press conference at the conclusion of the meeting of South American presidents held this Tuesday in Brasilia: the local president said that a clause from the BRICS bank makes the agreement for financial guarantees unfeasible.
