The Special Rescue Patrol of Municipal Firefighters managed to locate and recover three bodies in the dam of a hydroelectric plant on the Las Vacas River, this Wednesday, September 27, during the third day of the search operation for those missing during the tragedy that occurred in the settlement God is Faithful, under the El Naranjo bridge.

The bodies correspond to two adults: a man and a woman, both approximately 40 years old, and a baby approximately 6 months old.

Carlos Hernández, spokesman for the relief corps, confirmed that the bodies were found floating near the hydroelectric plant, in San Antonio Las Flores, Chinautla, and were “trapped among an accumulation of plastics and waste” that had been retained by a ‘ biofence’ placed at the mouth of the Las Vacas River.

Hernández explained that the Rescue Patrol was divided into four for this day’s work and the team that made its journey along the banks of the Las Vacas River first reported, at around 9:30 a.m., on the discovery of the baby, about 6 months old. .

The minor was attached to part of the biofence structure, designed to capture and retain large amounts of garbage and waste that flow with the river waters. This structure was the one installed by The Ocean Cleanup organization in collaboration with Biosferagt, to contribute to the decontamination of the river and the protection of the aquatic environment.

After locating the minor, the team intensified search efforts in the sector, traveling by boat. In a matter of minutes and at a distance of between three and five meters, he was able to visualize the bodies of the adults.

The discovery of the three bodies did not take more than 10 minutes, Hernández explained.

“As there are enough personnel deployed, another rescuer quickly visualized the second body. (…) They were not together, they were at a distance of between 4 or 5 meters, but in the same sector,” said the spokesperson.

The authorities have announced that they carried out the transfer of the bodies to dry land and that they will continue searching the area for possible signs, both on boat trips and walking along the banks of the basin.

To facilitate the investigation process and the delivery of the bodies to the relevant authorities, a temporary morgue has been installed near the place of discovery.

Update

The search teams, with the support of the Army, resumed this Wednesday, September 27, the search for those missing after the overflowing of the Naranjo River, which devastated a group of homes in the Dios es Fiel settlement, already in the jurisdiction of zone 7, which is located under the El Naranjo bridge.

The incident occurred during the early hours of Monday, September 25, when heavy rains caused the current to carry stones, trees, earth and debris, destroying fragile homes built mostly with zinc sheets.
