It happened in Córdoba. If she does not recover them, Mariana Pérez will not be able to play for Argentina in the South American tournament that will be held in Lima in July.
Mariana Pérez from Cordoba is one of the references of adapted basketball in Argentina, after having represented the country in Paralympic and Para-South American tournaments. In full preparation for the next continental competition, she suffered the theft of the wheels of her chair, which could leave her unable to compete.
“It was around 4:30 p.m. They were leaning against the truck, so they saw them gold, shiny, and they took them. They are not good for anyone, they are only good for playing chair basketball and they have my wheel size”, the athlete said during an interview with the news channel eldoce.tv.
The robbery occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the Patricios neighborhood, in the city of Córdoba, and Mariana wants the two wheels to be recovered with everyone’s help.

Member of “Las Lobas”, the name by which the Argentine women’s adapted basketball team is known, Mariana had planned to join the team’s concentration, which begins next week with a view to preparing for the South American of the specialty that will be played during July in Peru.
“Next Wednesday the concentration begins to go to play the South American in Lima and currently I don’t have wheels to play. We travel to Lima next week, and these wheels take about six months to get to Argentina,” said the athlete.
“So please, I ask you for a little bit of humanity. They are of no use to anyone, they will not be able to sell them to anyone, I think. And that nobody buys them, either. That they return them, that they leave them anywhere , in any sports center”, asked Mariana, with the illusion of recovering something essential to continue practicing her sport.
By the end, the player was hopeful that someone would return the wheels: “Good things always happen. I trust Córdoba, it’s my city, I love it very much, and it hurts me a lot that this happens.”
Mariana is a “veteran” of the Argentine women’s adapted basketball team and is very committed to the team. She has already participated in the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Paralympic Games and in the Toronto 2015 and Lima 2019 Parapan American Games.
“At first I had no notion of what this meant, I arrived together with other girls in a time of change. I didn’t quite understand what it was about, but now I’ve been in the national team for nine years and it’s always a pleasure to participate, ”she said at the time, ratifying her commitment to the albiceleste.
