If they were good deputies, they would not need a campaign

To the recurring unproductiveness, short-termism and deviations of the legislative alliance, which in themselves are onerous concepts due to their opportunity cost, the waste of tax resources in opaque, useless and even bizarre purchases is added. A good part of these expenses, which include office remodeling, furniture and electrical appliances, are incurred with the consent of deputies who are seeking re-election or are nominated for other positions.

We are at the time when the usual laziness of district representatives who now spend most of their time trying to excuse themselves or hide from their constituents and seeking the favor of other unsuspecting people through turncoats or moving to national waiting lists comes to the fore. of a push facilitated by electoral inertia.

Throughout the pro-government directives of Allan Rodríguez and Shirley Rivera, disregard for public resources has been a constant. However, at this moment there is an epitome of waste, since despite the absence of legislators from work commissions and the reduction of plenary sessions, the same expenses continue for food, fuel, drinks, airline tickets and even toilet paper. Such supplies during the early recess of sessions invite to question who uses these resources and to suspect possible ant thefts. Another possibility is that part of the public funds are being used in the electoral campaign of benches and representatives. But no one in Congress has the civil courage to require restraint and respect for the treasury, an aspect that citizens should take into account when casting their votes.

Whether they are defectors or repeaters with the same party, the first names on the lists of candidates for deputies are the ones with the greatest probability of being elected on June 25. That is why they are the most desirable and also the most expensive places in the seat lottery. However, there are names and surnames of congressmen who are already synonymous with shamelessness, compromises and outright lies. That was the real reason behind the failed attempt by 16 parties to withdraw the names of candidates from the ballots, including those who abstained, because in this case the one who is silent also endorses. In the second vote, which restored the lists, the Republican Party was opposed, while the abstentionists in the crucial decision were Citizen Prosperity, National Unity of Hope, Courage, Republican Union and National Advance Party.

After the disappointments and government breaches of the last decade, voters have a clearer vision of party behavior patterns, as well as the origin of leaders and cadres. The multiplication of electoral vehicles is a symptom of the same disease.

The best campaign for responsible parliamentarians would be to work hard on modernizing regulations, practicing transparency as a principle, and structuring a framework of legal certainty. In this way, they would not need to go to raffle or give away trinkets or go to play funny or humble at rallies that are the only distraction available in town afternoons. The next Congress can only be better if it demands more decency and less chatter, more intelligence and no demagogy, more dignity and zero collusion.
