NEW DELHI — India’s trade minister will hold talks in Britain on a free trade deal between the two countries and will meet ministers from the European Free Trade Association from Monday to Tuesday, the trade and industry ministry said on Sunday.
India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal will meet with his British counterpart Kemi Badenoch and representatives of British industry, the ministry said in a statement.
The talks provide an opportunity to discuss key priorities of a free trade agreement “with a focus on tackling trade barriers, promoting investment and fostering greater cooperation in areas such as technology, innovation and intellectual property rights,” the statement said.
Differences have arisen between India and Britain over some key tariff lines and investment protection rules. These include disagreements over concessions on duties levied by India on imports of automobiles and liquor.
Mr Goyal will also meet ministers and officials from the European Free Trade Association, which includes Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, to assess progress in reaching a trade and economic partnership agreement with them. REUTERS
