Indiana deputies found scissors in an arrestee’s anal cavity during a required body scan before he was jailed.
La Porte County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Jeff Holt, assistant prison commander of operations at the La Porte County Jail, assisted prison deputies on May 17 in the admission of an arrestee who refused a “SecurPASS” Body Scan.
The reluctant detainee eventually agreed to the scan, and upon viewing the footage, Holt noticed a foreign object in the man’s anal cavity.
Because of his training and experience, Holt was able to recognize the item as a metal object. The detainee was then escorted to another room for further investigation.

The detainee initially refused to cooperate with deputies.
A second body scan was performed. Holt noticed when looking at those images that the object had moved, which allowed him to positively identify it as a pair of scissors.
The scissors were then removed from the detainee’s body without incident.

The “SecurPASS” body scanner has been used at the prison since its inception in 2017. Prison officials have since recovered several unusual items, including tattoo equipment, drugs, paraphernalia, various foreign objects and now scissors.
“The body scanner is an incredibly sophisticated tool used to ensure the safety and security of everyone at the La Porte County Jail. Lieutenant Holt is commended for relying on his training and experience, and successfully preventing a dangerous sharp object of his full path to prison,” Captain Derek J. Allen said in a statement.
