PETALING JAYA – The frantic bidding on the special “FF” license plate series has put entrepreneur Ivon Wong in the spotlight.
Her dazzling bid of RM909,999 (S$267,000) for the coveted FF9 record caught the attention of curious netizens.
“So this lovely lady bought number plate FF9 for RM909,999??” someone posted.
However, Ms. Wong, 35, explained that she didn’t get the number plate in the end, as she was outbid with 2,000 RM after someone else threw 911,999 RM.
“People have been asking me why I made the license plate offer,” she said.
The FF9 license plate, she said, was important to her as a way to remember her beloved pet Fei Fei, who passed away three years ago.
“It represents cherished memories and the bond I shared with my dog Fei Fei,” she said yesterday.
She also said she had two cars – a McLaren 720S and a Mercedes – that also had a “9” on the number plate.
Ms. Wong, who is in the retail and beauty line, said that Fei Fei had been a loyal companion to her.
“When I came home from work or when I was going through some hard times, Fei Fei was always there to greet me,” she said.
Although she failed to get the FF9 number plate, Ms. Wong said she was not sad about it.
She said she would continue to use her platform to raise awareness about mental health, something she felt strongly about.
“I came from a single-parent family, a close-knit family that had financial problems. This early experience taught me the value of perseverance, hard work and ingenuity.”
