A court in Tehran on Wednesday ruled that the United States must pay $312.9 million in compensation to the families of victims of the ISIS/ISIS attacks that killed at least 17 people in 2017.
The international relations and human rights department of the Iranian judiciary said in a statement that the decision was made in response to complaints made by the families of the three victims.
The twin attacks on June 7, 2017 targeted Iran’s parliament building in central Tehran and the mausoleum of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini in southern Tehran.
Separate teams of gunmen targeted two iconic buildings in the Iranian capital with gunfire and explosives, killing at least 17 and injuring 50.
The ISIS/ISIS terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the twin attacks, one of the deadliest attacks in Iran since the 1979 revolution.
A statement from Iran identified nine American officials and institutions that must pay compensation to the families of the victims.
According to the decision, a total of 312.9 million dollars of compensation should be paid, including 9.95 million dollars of pecuniary damages, 104 million dollars of moral and 199 million dollars.
Those named in the resolution include the US government, former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush, US Central Command (CENTCOM), former CENTCOM commander Tommy Franks, Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Lockheed Martin and American Airlines Group.
The resolution held the United States responsible for its “fundamental role” in “organizing and directing terrorist groups”, news coverage in the American media, and the books and speeches of American officials, and referred to the CIA’s role in “creating terrorist groups”. DAESH/ISIS.
The decision came in response to multiple orders from US courts accusing Tehran of “terrorist” attacks and confiscation of Iranian assets, the statement said.
The court decision comes amid rising tensions between Tehran and Washington over Iran’s growing ties with Russia and China, as well as nuclear deal standoff.
