The Israeli army has today killed four Palestinians, one of them a teenager, during a raid in the city of Jenin in the West Bank, Palestinian officials announced.
This year alone, 83 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli army in the occupied West Bank and today’s attack comes after several weeks of intensifying such operations.
Palestinian officials said today’s operation was carried out by Israeli civilian agents who entered central Jenin to carry out the executions, Palestinian news agency Wafa said, citing the health ministry.
The Israeli military said its security forces are currently “operating in the refugee camp in Jena”.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health identified three of the dead as 29-year-old Youssef Shreem, 28-year-old Nidal Khazim, and 16-year-old Omar Aëadin, 16. The identity of the fourth victim was not yet known.
Jenin is among the northern areas of the West Bank where Israel has stepped up operations in recent weeks to crush Palestinian militant resistance.
Amateur video taken today in Jenin showed a crowd of Palestinians surrounding a car suspected of containing Israeli infiltrators.
In other footage, the car was later seen being towed away by the Israeli army.
Today’s deaths bring to 83 the number of Palestinians killed since the start of the year in the bitter Middle East conflict, as Israel has stepped up arrest operations following a series of attacks late last year.
Last week Israel killed three Palestinians during a raid in Jenin, and 48 hours later it killed six more in a similar situation in the city.
At least 170 Palestinians have been killed during Israeli attacks in 2022, most of them civilians.
