Jewish college students attacked with glass bottle on College of Pittsburgh campus as college students return to lessons

A bunch of Jewish college students on the College of Pittsburgh was allegedly attacked with a glass bottle, leaving two college students injured, the college introduced.

In accordance to an announcement from the Pennsylvania school, college students had been attacked close to the Cathedral of Studying, a focus on the Pittsburgh campus, round 11:30 p.m. Friday.

Two college students had been injured within the assaults. The scholars, who had been carrying conventional Jewish yarmulkes, had been handled on the scene, the college stated.

The alleged perpetrator, the college stated, had no recognized college affiliation and was instantly arrested by Pitt Police.

The suspect was carrying a kaffiyeh, a standard checkered scarf worn within the Center East and more and more displayed as an emblem of solidarity with Palestinians.

College leaders had been involved with the Hillel College Middle in addition to the Jewish Federation of Larger Pittsburgh.

The college condemned the assault, calling it “appalling.”

“To be clear: Neither acts of violence nor antisemitism can be tolerated,” the assertion stated. “Native and federal companions are supporting Pitt Police on this ongoing investigation.”

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro stated “antisemitism and hate-fueled violence of any sort has no place” locally.

“It doesn’t matter what you seem like, the place you come from, or who you do or don’t pray to, you need to really feel secure in your campus right here in Pennsylvania,” Shapiro posted on X. “As an investigation proceeds, let me be clear: antisemitism and hate-fueled violence of any sort has no place in our Commonwealth.
