White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre called out “violence and vitriol” against transgender Americans after conservative outrage passed Bud Light‘s collaboration with trans TikTok influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

Jean-Pierre’s comments come after the beer collaboration with Mulvaney, who interviewed President Joe Biden in October as part of a NowThis presidential forumled, among other things, to right-wing criticism Kid Rock’s beer can making video and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s switch to drinking Coors Light (despite the latter company’s support for LGBTQ rights).

CBS News White House correspondent Nancy Cordes asked Jean-Pierre if the White House has contacted Mulvaney, and while the press secretary didn’t return calls, she wondered why the influencer couldn’t just post a video about a beer she likes.

“If a transgender American posts a video about a brand of beer they like and it leads to bomb threats, it’s clear that that level of violence and venom against a transgender American has to stop,” said Jean-Pierre.

Jean-Pierre went on to praise the White House’s commitment to protecting LGBTQ rights and recognizing demonstrations in support of those rights across the country.

“They should be able to be who they are, who they want to be and they should be able to speak out against – and we should be able to speak out and others should be able to speak out against hate and discrimination,” she said. said.

“But look, that kind of dangerous rhetoric, that kind of vicious language and violence – it has to stop.”
