Larry Elder, the conservative talk show host and former California gubernatorial nominee, jumps into the race for the White House, joining a growing field of contenders competing against former President Donald Trump in the 2024 Republican presidential nomination race.
Elder announced his candidacy for president in an interview on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Thursday
“America is in decline, but this decline is not inevitable. We can enter a new American Golden Age, but we must elect a leader who can take us there. That is why I am running for president,” Elder wrote in an accompanying statement. .

Elder, a longtime conservative commentator and popular nationally syndicated radio host, easily topped the field of replacement candidates in the September 2021 California gubernatorial election that Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom convincingly outlasted. Elder surrendered Newsom for a second time when the governor easily won re-election last year.
The former lawyer and author has flirted with a campaign for the White House for months, saying on numerous occasions that he would “very likely run for president,” with an early spring announcement.

Elder has recently emphasized that he has made a handful of trips to Iowa and New Hampshire, the two states that lead the GOP presidential election calendar, to meet with conservative leaders and activists in the states that vote early, and that he is huddling with donors .
The Conservative host, who is black, has said he believes inflation, energy and border security are among the most important issues in the 2024 election. But he has also stressed that he wants to highlight the plight of children in America who are born to parents who are not married and that he wants to focus on what he claims is “this lie about systemic racism.”

Elder joins a growing field in 2024, including Trump, who announced his third White House run in November and remains the clear front-runner in the latest GOP presidential nomination polls.

Former ambassador to the United Nations and former two-term South Carolina governor Nikki Haley launched her presidential campaign in February, as did multimillionaire entrepreneur, best-selling author and conservative commentator Vivek Ramaswamy.
Republican two-term Governor Ron DeSantis remains on the sidelines of 2024, but is widely expected to enter the race after Florida’s legislative session ends next month. Former Vice President Mike Pence has said he will make the 2024 announcement in the coming weeks.
Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina recently created a presidential exploratory committee. And former two-term governments. Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas is slated to run for president in his home state next week.
Meanwhile, New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu and former two-year New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, among others, are seriously considering presidential bids.
