Conspiracy theorist Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) is being scolded on social media for complaining about a problem after explicitly voting against funding to help solve it.
The far-right legislator lamented the country’s crumbling infrastructure, tweeted about recent rail and highway problems, and wrote that “things like this are constantly going on in America.”
But as her critics were quick to point out, Boebert was one of 200 Republican lawmakers in the House who voted against President Joe Biden’s signature infrastructure package.
Passed in 2021, the deal will raise $1.2 trillion to help repair, replace and modernize the country’s aging roads, highways, bridges and more — or exactly what Boebert said is “collapsing around us” in a Twitter message posted on Wednesday:
Both of the specific incidents Boebert complained about were actually caused by accidents rather than aging infrastructure.
Then the train derailed hit a truckinjuring 15 people, while the I-95 collapse was caused by a gas tanker crashed under an overpass and caught fire, killing the driver.
However, her concerns about the infrastructure “collapsing” are widely shared with engineers warning that many of the country’s roads, bridges, waterways and more are in dire need of repair and modernization.
The 2021 infrastructure deal was meant to address just that – but Boebert voted against it.
The legislature’s critics called her out for the blatant hypocrisy:
