OTTAWA –

Members of the Liberal and Conservative backrooms will take the spotlight today to testify before a parliamentary committee investigating allegations of foreign election interference.

The Committee on Procedure and Home Affairs will hear from Jeremy Broadhurst, a senior adviser to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who served as the Liberals’ campaign manager during the 2019 federal vote.

Azam Ishmael, the National Director of the Liberals and the person who oversaw the party’s campaign during the most recent 2021 federal election, will also appear.

Conservative Party 2021 national campaign manager Fred DeLorey will also appear alongside Hamish Marshall, who held the same role in 2019.

The committee recently heard from Trudeau’s longtime chief of staff, Katie Telford, who repeatedly told MPs that national security arrangements prevented her from disclosing details of briefings on interference.

Concerns about Chinese interference in Canadian affairs have increased after a series of media reports citing anonymous sources alleging that Beijing was trying to influence the outcome of the latest election.

Many of those concerns are related to the 2021 federal election, where conservative candidates lost in several rides home from many voters of Chinese descent.
