The mystery about the whereabouts of British actor Julian Sands adds a terrifying new clue: authorities in southern California recovered human remains near the mountain where he disappeared in January of this year.
The news was confirmed by the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, which said in a statement that hikers contacted them around 10 a.m. Saturday to alert them of the gruesome find.
The remains were found in the Mount Baldy Wilderness and were taken to the coroner’s office for identification this week.
The search for Sands had been complicated by dangerous weather conditions there, which in June often include heavy storms and snowfall.

What happened to the actor?
Sands, known in the audiovisual industry for his work in films such as Arachnophobia and in series such as 24, disappeared on January 13 in the San Gabriel Mountains, in California (United States), as part of an expedition.
The 65-year-old actor was searched with drones and helicopters, but so far there has been no case.
On the County Sheriff’s official Facebook page, authorities called on all hikers – even experts – to avoid walks and hikes in the Mount Baldy area due to the high risk of facing an accident.

Earlier this year, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue (SAR) teams responded to 14 rescue missions in and around Mt. Baldy.
“These rescue missions have been for lost, stranded and/or injured hikers. Unfortunately, during these last 4 weeks, two hikers did not survive after falling and injuring themselves,” they warned at the time.
Who is Julian Sands?
Julian Sands was born on January 4, 1958 in Otley, West Yorkshire (England) and his career was marked by film and television projects.
The actor is known for his appearance in films such as A Love in Florence (1985), nominated for an Oscar, Arachnophobia (1990), and Naked Lunch (1991). His notable works also include the film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), Jackie Chan’s action comedy The Medallion (2003), as well as his participation in series such as Smallville or The L Word.
Sands is one of the most relevant characters in “Arachnophobia”.
He was married to the journalist Sarah Harvey, from whom he divorced in 1987 and with whom he had a son. Three years later, he married the writer Eugenia Citkowitz, a relationship that gave him two daughters.
