Oregon State Rep. Janelle Bynum received the Democratic main in Oregon’s fifth Congressional District on Tuesday, placing her on a collision course with the Republican incumbent, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, this fall.

Bynum defeated Jamie McLeod-Skinner to advance to face Chavez-DeRemer in a race broadly anticipated to play a major function in deciding which get together controls the Home of Representatives.

McLeod-Skinner narrowly misplaced to Chavez-DeRemer two years in the past after defeating longtime Democratic Rep. Kurt Schrader within the 2022 main by operating as a progressive to his left.

“This is among the massive swing districts nationally that each events are actually on the lookout for to carry on to, or recapture, the Home,” Ben Gaskins, affiliate professor of political science at Lewis & Clark School, instructed The Related Press about Oregon’s fifth District.

Bynum, from Washington, D.C., was elected to the Oregon Home in 2016, representing the suburbs southeast of Portland. She has served on the chamber’s small enterprise committee and is the proprietor of 4 McDonald’s franchises.

Oregon’s fifth Congressional District contains all of Linn County, most of Clackamas and Deschutes counties, and elements of Marion and Multnomah counties.
