One of South Carolina’s “most wanted” fugitives hid in plain sight for nearly two decades, even cheating on his wife and children, before being arrested in Detroit this week, police said.

Antran Hall, who was convicted in 2006 of cocaine trafficking and failing to stop for blue lights, was on the run for 17 years until police, including US Marshals, tracked him down in Detroit and arrested him Monday.

According to the South Carolina Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, his family only knew him by his assumed name and identity.

“After 17 years on the run, the perseverance, dedication and teamwork of our agencies led to the capture of one of Anderson County’s most wanted fugitives,” said U.S. Marshal for the District of South Carolina Chrissie. Latimore, in a statement.

The arrest was the culmination of nearly half a year of investigative work after law enforcement officials unearthed information earlier this year that he may have been using an alias in the Motor City.
