Representatives Marjorie Taylor Green, R-Ga., and Elise Stefanik, RN.Y., unveiled joint resolutions on Thursday to overturn former President Donald Trump’s 2019 and 2021 impeachments.
Stefanik’s measure relates to Trump’s impeachment in 2021 on charges of inciting an insurrection, alleging that the facts on which the articles were based failed to meet the burden of proof that the former president committed “major crimes and misdemeanors” for his role in the January 6 attack on the Capitol, or participation to “revolt of rebellion against the United States.”
Greene’s solution addresses Trump’s impeachment proceedings in 2019 on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress for withholding aid from Ukraine to pressure the country to conduct a pre-election investigation of then-presidential candidate Joe Biden. The document argues that the former president was wrongly accused of wrongdoing and that the circumstances on which the impeachment was based did not prove he had committed “serious crimes and misdemeanors”.

The conservative congresswomen defended their legislation in a joint press statement Thursday.
“The American people know that the Democrats used the power of impeachment against President Donald Trump as a weapon to advance their own extreme political agenda,” Stefanik said in a press release. “From the beginning of this mock trial, I have opposed the blatant attempt by Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff to rip up the Constitution, as House Democrats ignored the Constitution and did not follow the legislative process.
“President Donald Trump has been rightly acquitted, and it is time to stamp out the Democrats’ smear not just against President Trump’s name, but against millions of patriots across the country,” she added.

“President Trump’s first impeachment was a politically motivated sham. The Democrats, led by Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff, weaponized a perfect phone call with Ukraine to disrupt the 2020 election. Meanwhile, the FBI had credible evidence of Joe and Hunter Biden’s corrupt dealings, confirming their involvement in a foreign bribery pay-to-play scheme and receiving more than $5 million each. All of this information was revealed to Congress through the FD-1023 form of the FBI’s most credible informant. The form vindicates President Trump and exposes the crimes of the Biden family,” Greene said in a statement.
“It is clear that the impeachment of President Trump was nothing more than a witch hunt that should be expunged from our history,” she said. “I am proud to work with President Elise Stefanik on our joint resolutions to correct the record and clear President Trump’s good name.”
Stefanik’s office also added in a press release that if the resolutions passed, it “would be as if such articles of impeachment had never passed the full House of Representatives.”

According to Axios, the measures would be mostly symbolic, as removal processes normally involve lower-profile criminal cases that could easily disappear from the public record; Trump’s impeachments, on the other hand, received a lot of publicity.
While it’s unclear whether either resolution will secure a vote, Stefanik, who presides over the House Republican Conference, has more leverage than others to make sure it does.
The measures are also in the middle actions of right-wing House Republicans to impeach President Joe Biden and five of his officials and investigate the alleged financial plans of the Biden family, much to the chagrin of their more moderate colleagues.
MSNBC host Joe Scarborough, a former Republican legislator, denounced Greene and Stefanik’s actions on Friday’s “Morning Joe,” deriding the efforts as “so stupid” and “shameless.”
