NEMA has received another set of 107 stranded Nigerians from Tripoli, Libya.

The Director General of the Agency, Alhaji Mustapha Habib Ahmed, who received the returnees on arrival, announced that this flight brought the total number of assisted voluntary returnees to 690 in 5 flights via Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Ikeja.

The returnees were taken aboard Al Buraq Air Boeing 737-800 registration number 5A-DMG which landed at the Cargo Wing of Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Ikeja at approximately 1545 hrs.

The profile of those returned shows that 48 adult women including 3 medical cases, 5 female children and 1 young female were among the returnees.

Also, the profile further indicates that 49 adult males, 3 male children and 1 male infant completed today’s tally of 107 returnees.

The Director General, represented by the Chief Relief and Rehabilitation Officer, Mr. Aziz Afunku, further explained that a total of 105 stranded Nigerians were repatriated in February 2023 and another 281 were returned to the country in March 2023.

In April of this year, a total of 259 people have been helped back to the country so far.

Since 2017, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has been helping distressed Nigerians stranded in Libya with the support of international partners.
