U.S. Naval officers confirmed Sunday that the 2 crew members of a Navy jet that crashed close to Mount Rainier in Washington final week had been positioned and declared lifeless.

The EA-18G Growler jet from the Digital Assault Squadron out of Whidbey Island Naval Air Station crashed on a mountainside east of Mount Rainier on Tuesday afternoon. Whereas the wreckage of the aircraft was positioned resting about 6,000 toes up in a distant, steep and heavily-wooded space, the standing of the crew remained unknown with no website evaluation of the particles space.

“It’s with a heavy coronary heart that we share the lack of two beloved Zappers,” Commander Timothy Warburton, commanding officer of Digital Assault Squadron (VAQ) 130 mentioned on Sunday. “Our precedence proper now could be taking good care of the households of our fallen aviators and guaranteeing the well-being of our Sailors and the Growler group. The Navy added that the investigation into the reason for the crash is ongoing.

The EA-18G is a variant of the F/A-18 household of plane, outfitted with a classy digital warfare suite that’s used for tactical jamming and digital safety, in line with the Navy’s web site. The jet was constructed to interchange the EA-6B Prowler, and first went into manufacturing in October 2004.

The jet made its inaugural flight in August 2006, and the primary supply of the plane was made on June 3, 2008, to VAQ 129 at NAS Whidbey Island.
