Oble has picked up worldwide distribution rights for “The Ridge,” a six-part psychological thriller the Paris-based studio and distributor will co-produce with New Zealand’s Nice Southern Tv (“One Lane Bridge”). The challenge can be introduced at this week’s MIA co-production and drama pitch discussion board.
Created by BAFTA Scotland winner David Murdoch and acclaimed novelist Nora Chassler, co-written by Alan Campbell and Jess Sayer and commissioned by Sky Originals New Zealand and BBC Scotland, “The Ridge” follows a troubled younger Scot from Glasgow to rural New Zealand, the place she quickly turns into enmeshed in a far-reaching plot.
Fleeing dependancy and forsaking an expert life in tatters, the younger Mia accepts a marriage invitation from her estranged sister – solely to search out the would-be-bride lifeless upon arrival. Caught up in grief, and pulled by a darkish attraction to her late-sister’s fiancé, Mia quickly uncovers the broader tensions and mysterious forces cleaving aside a rugged mountain group, setting environmentalists and Maori farmers in opposition to each other.
“The Ridge” stands out as a novel collection that mixes fascinating characters, breathtaking landscapes and an enthralling narrative,” says Oble co-founder Katia Sol. “Furthermore, it delves into present environmental considerations and pressing queries, exploring the fragile stability between agricultural practices and the preservation of our pure environment. We’re thrilled to collaborate with Nice Southern Tv to contribute to the conclusion of this compelling story.”
“(This system) is a singular, character-driven collection that sits within the sub-genre of thrillers like ‘Sharp Objects,’ ‘Prime of the Lake’ and ‘The Undoing,’ progressively turning the screw of gnawing suspense,” provides Nice Southern Tv CEO Philip Smith. “We can’t await audiences to fulfill and root for the ambivalent, unreliable anti-hero that’s Mia, and to dive into her mysterious and compelling story.”
Each Smith and Sol can be in Rome to pitch the collection at this yr’s MIA Market, which runs Oct. 9 – 13.
