Two Orange County sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a man with an ax on Wednesday morning.
Sheriff officials said deputies were called to the 14000 block of Van Buren Street in a residential area near Westminster Memorial Park and Mortuary a little before 5 a.m.
There, two deputies shot and killed a man in a home.
The sheriff’s department has not released any other details, including the age of the deceased, his actions or those of deputies leading up to the incident, or the number of shots fired.
The department said the initial call was to investigate a report of someone “breaking into a home and destroying property”.

“As far as I know, the suspect was armed with an axe,” said Sgt. Mike Woodroof, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. “All conduct leading up to the shooting is under review by the District Attorney’s detectives.”
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Orange County Fire Department.
Parts of the block where the shooting took place were temporarily closed in connection with the investigation.
