The OIC also described it as a “blatant violation” of the Geneva Conventions and international law.

The “flag parade” is staged annually by Israeli settlers to commemorate what they call the unification of Jerusalem, in reference to Israel’s 1967 occupation of the city.

The Jerusalem Islamic Foundation said in a statement that approximately 1,262 fanatical Jews had forcibly entered the courtyard of the Masjid al-Aqsa.

For Muslims, Masjid al-Aqsa represents the third holiest site in Islam. Jews refer to the area as the Temple Mount, naming it the location of two Jewish temples in ancient times.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem, where Al-Aqsa Mosque is located, during the 1967 Arab-Israeli War. He annexed the entire city in 1980 in a move that was never accepted by the international community.
