STOCKHOLM — A roller coaster derailment in Stockholm killed one person and injured several others on Sunday, Swedish television reports.
Park officials told public broadcaster SVT that one of the Jetline roller coaster’s carriages derailed and people fell to the ground at the Grona Lund amusement park.
“It’s incredibly tragic and shocking,” park spokeswoman Annika Troselius told SVT. “Unfortunately, we learned that one person was killed and many injured.”
Police said seven people, both children and adults, were hospitalized.
The amusement park was evacuated to facilitate the work of rescue teams.
SVT reporter Jenny Lagerstedt, queuing up for another ride, said the carriage was at a great height.
“Suddenly I heard a metallic thud and then the rides started shaking,” she said. Rescuers had to remove other passengers trapped in other roller coaster cars after the accident.
