Oregon Democrat unseats Republican incumbent in Home race, shrinking Republican majority

Oregon Republican Rep. Lori-Chavez-DeRemer has been ousted by Democratic challenger state Rep. Janelle Bynum within the state’s fifth Congressional District, the Related Press predicted Thursday, greater than per week after Election Day.

The victory reduces the Republican majority within the Home of Representatives from 218 seats to the Democrats’ 209.

Reporting 94% on Thursday, Bynum led by greater than two factors, with 184,023 votes to Chavez-DeRemer’s 174,448, a distinction of 9,575 votes. The race was rated as a toss-up by the Fox Information Energy Rankings.

Chavez-DeRemer conceded Thursday, saying, “I hope that Ms. Bynum will observe the instance I’ve set over the previous two years and function a realistic, considerate and bipartisan chief who will work with the Trump Administration to enhance affordability tackle housing, public security and safe the border.”

Chavez-DeRemer was first elected to Congress in 2022, defeating her Democratic opponent by two factors. With the victory, Chavez-DeRemer turned the primary girl to symbolize Oregon within the Home of Representatives.
