Karachi, Pakistan
Pakistan and Belarus announced on Tuesday an agreement to lift the visa requirement for diplomatic and official passports, as well as strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the economic, political and technology fields.
In the joint statement, it was stated that the agreement was reached during the two-day visit of Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik to Islamabad at the invitation of his Pakistani counterpart, Bilaval Bhutto Zardari.
During his visit, Aleinik met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Chief of General Staff General Asim Munir and had extensive meetings with Zardari at the delegation level.
In the statement, it was stated that the top diplomats had a wide-ranging and comprehensive discussion on a variety of issues, including cooperation in the fields of politics, economy, technology, culture and education.
The ministers added that they intend to support business initiatives aimed at enhancing commercial and industrial cooperation between the two countries through, among other things, participation in exhibition and fair events in both countries, face-to-face and online negotiations.
As February 3, 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Belarus, the ministers welcomed the intention to develop a plan of joint events dedicated to the anniversary of diplomatic relations.
The two foreign ministers also signed an agreement on visa abolition for holders of diplomatic and official passports.
In the statement, it was stated that the agreement will increase interaction and exchange between Pakistan and Belarus and facilitate the travels of diplomats and government officials.
Later, at a joint press conference held at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, senior diplomats pledged to step up efforts to strengthen business, trade and technological cooperation between the two countries.
