Polish President Andrzej Duda has called an emergency meeting of the National Security Bureau, the organ that carries out the security and defense functions of the presidency, to discuss the latest developments in Russia.

The meeting, which was reported by the state-owned PAP news agency and confirmed by the presidency, was attended by the prime minister, defense minister and heads of ministries and special services, in addition to the president.

The agency added that the current security situation in Poland and the coordination of activities with the allies were discussed.

Earlier, the head of the bureau, Jacek Siewiera, denied on Twitter some media reports claiming that the Polish Armed Forces had been put on alert due to the armed rebellion launched by the Wagner paramilitary group against the Russian state.

“The Polish Armed Forces are constantly on standby from February 2022 and the level has not changed in response to recent events.” He added that Poland is monitoring the developments closely and in consultation with its allies.

“We treat it (revolt) as an internal matter of Russia,” Siewiera said.

On Friday, Wagner accused Russian forces of attacking his fighters and then crossed from Ukraine to Rostov-on-Don, Russia.

In response, the Federal Security Service launched a criminal case against them for “armed riot.” Russian President Vladimir Putin described Wagner’s uprising as an act of “treason.”

The leader of the group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said that his fighters would advance to Moscow, prompting the Kremlin to increase security measures in various parts of the country.
