President Biden delivered a speech Friday at a reception for the Democratic National Committee saying that “MAGA Republicans” are trying to undo the progress made in the US.
Biden’s remarks in Washington, DC, came just days after he announced his presidential re-election campaign.
He praised his presidential achievements during his speech on Friday, including the signing of the CHIPS and Science Act, the Inflation Reduction Act, the American Rescue Plan and the bipartisan infrastructure and gun reform bills. He also highlighted his landmark Supreme Court appointee Justice Kentanji Brown Jackson, the first black woman to sit on the bench, claiming that his administration had “restored America’s leadership in the world.”
“We have re-established America’s position on the world stage,” he told Democratic donors.

Biden also claimed that “12 million brand new jobs” were created in two years, which he says is more than any president has created in a four-year term. He also said that the unemployment rate is 3.5%.
But the president also claimed that American freedoms and democracy are under attack by “MAGA Republicans,” a reference to former President Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. Trump has also run for president.
“MAGA Republicans are trying to push us back,” Biden said. “But together we won’t let them do it. Not an inch back. Instead, our agenda will continue to move us forward and build on the progress we’ve made. And we need to get this job done.”
“Let’s keep growing the economy from the middle and bottom up,” he continued. “Let’s protect a woman’s right to choose and codify Roe v. Wade. Let’s keep protecting our children from gun violence by continuing to work to eliminate assault weapons. And let’s keep reducing the cost of prescription drugs, not just for those who use Medicare, but for all Americans.”
Biden warned that the “real problem” is “those MAGA Republicans,” he says, who represent 30 percent of the Republican Party, adding that “this isn’t your dad’s Republican Party.”

BIDEN APPROVAL RATING HAS A LOW LOW DURING RE-ELECTIVE CAMPAIGN LAUNCH: POLL
His warning about “MAGA Republicans” echoes comments he made in his video re-election announcement released earlier this week, when he warned that they are trying to take away American freedoms through abortion restrictions, book bans and other proposals.
At Friday’s reception, Biden also reminded donors of their contributions during the 2020 election when he defeated Trump and said he was optimistic he could win re-election.
“Remember 2020, when everyone wrote us off? But you people in this room, you knew we could do it, and we did. You raised significant funds to allow us to compete,” Biden said.
The president also recalled the polls and Republicans’ claims leading up to the 2022 midterm elections that predicted the Democrats would perform poorly. The Republicans narrowly took back the House and the Democrats won a seat in the Senate after the November election.

“Remember 2022, the midterm elections, when we had to get our clock clean and swamped? you all. And we’re going to do it again together in 2024,” he said.
Biden concluded by telling donors that their support boosted him through the 2020 election and that they could propel him to victory again in 2024.
“There is so much we can do and we can contribute so much to the country right now,” he said. “And it’s because of you that I’m here, and it’s because of you that we win this next time.”
