VALDOSTA, Georgia — It looks like a scene from a Hollywood blockbuster. A sedan rockets into the air after pulling into the ramp of a flatbed trailer on a Georgia highway. And the entire crash is captured on video by a cop’s body camera.
Shocked motorists and law enforcement watched in horror as the Nissan Altima was launched 120 feet down the highway in Lowndes County, according to the police report on the May 24 crash.
The driver was a 21-year-old Florida woman, the report said. She was taken to South Georgia Medical Center with serious injuries, Georgia State Patrol spokesman Courtney Floyd said Wednesday.
After landing upside down, the Nissan hit another car and then tumbled from side to side before coming to rest 7 meters away, the report said. Even before the car stops, the officer whose bodycam captured the crash starts sprinting to provide assistance to the affected motorists.
A Lowndes County deputy was hit by flying debris, but his injuries were not life-threatening.
The tow truck, described as a roll-back wrecker, was parked in the left lane with its hazard lights on, the accident report said. Authorities were on site at an earlier incident.
Georgia State Patrol Lt. Crystal Zion told WSB-TV that the crash underlines the importance of Georgia’s “Move Over” law.
“When you see those lights slowing down, pull over,” she said.
