Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., announced Friday night that he will not run for the open 2024 U.S. Senate seat in Maryland, currently held by Senator Ben Cardin, D-Md.
Raskin, who was the lead impeachment manager for former President Trump’s first impeachment trial, said he will run for re-election to the House of Representatives.
“Right now, I think the best way for me to make the biggest difference in American politics in 2024 and beyond is to run for reelection to the United States House of Representatives in Maryland’s extraordinary 8th district,” Raskin said. in a statement. “To mobilize thousands of Democracy Summer Fellows and raise millions of dollars and everyone’s minds to strengthen and build Democratic majorities in the House and Senate.”

“I am deeply grateful not only to those who have encouraged me on this exciting path, but also to those from all over Maryland who have strongly encouraged me to run for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by Senator Ben Cardin,” he added.
Raskin went into remission in April after completing chemotherapy after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2022.
